Apparently a popular idiom in the South is "clear off a spot and pitch a fit," although I am unaware of what context such a thing would be said.
If you have some insight a comment would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently a popular idiom in the South is "clear off a spot and pitch a fit," although I am unaware of what context such a thing would be said.
If you have some insight a comment would be greatly appreciated.

My most southern friend, from Georgia, used that expression in reference to a pastor that he felt really preached well.
For example, "Did you hear Johnny Hunt in chapel today? Ooh boy, he cleared a spot and pitched a fit! I'm tellin' you, that was some real preachin' righchere. (I'm not sure how you'd spell that last word, it's my best guess.)
This same friend called the Civil War "the war of Northern Aggression."
Thanks for the insight. It was quite helpful.
